Description
Provera (medroxyprogesterone) is an oral medicine derived from the female hormone progesterone and can be used for treating hormonal imbalance, irregular periods or other menstrual disorders, and uterine problems (such as abnormal bleeding, endometrial hyperplasia) caused by lack of the natural progesterone.
Before you take Provera you should tell your doctor or health care professional if you have a history of any of the following: asthma, blood clots, breast cancer, kidney or liver disease, headaches, vaginal bleeding, unusual allergic reaction to any drugs or foods. Taking medroxyprogesterone during the first four months of pregnancy put your unborn baby to an excessive risk of birth defects. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant, and also if you are breast-feeding.
Your doctor is also supposed to know all other medicines you are taking, prescribed or non-prescribed, including herbal medications and preparations, as Provera may interact with some of them (such as rifampin, rifapentine, and griseofulvin, and others). You should inquire about the complete list at your pharmacist’s. Among the most common side effects there may be headaches, libido change, appetite and weight imbalance, vaginal infections, and some other. You should ask your pharmacist about all other probable side effects.
