Description
Parlodel (Bromocriptine) is derived from ergot alkaloids group of medicines and helps to reduce or stop continual breast milk production, assists in regularity of menstrual period, infertility, and other conditions caused by high prolactin levels. Prolactin is a hormone which bromocriptine helps to restrain.
Thus, it is useful in restoring ovulation and dealing with menstrual problems and cancer-like symptoms (adenomas) that increase prolactin levels. Bromocriptine is also used in the treatment of mental degenerative conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, and helps to prevent age-related mental decline. You can choose either tablets or capsules, but before you take the medicine tell your doctor if you have a history of: heart attack, angina or chest pain, unstable blood pressure, hypersensitivity to ergot alkaloids or other medicines or any other allergies, mental disorders, retroperitoneal fibrosis, liver or kidney disease. It is not supposed to be taken when you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant, and also when breastfeeding.
Take it by mouth with food or drink to avoid stomach upset. You may feel dizzy when taking the first doze, so arrange some place where you can lie down for a while. Among other side effects it is possible to have loss of appetite, limb numbness, irregular heart rate, headaches, weakness or tiredness. Do not forget to check up regularly and tell your doctor about every condition that is bothersome to you. Do not quit taking the medicine unless under the guidance of your health care professional.
