Description
Raloxifen is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) that helps to treat and prevent osteoporosis during the post menopause period.
It decreases calcium loss from bones; especially the calcium lost with urine and normalizes body’s calcium balance, and it also helps to reduce the risk of fractures. According to breast cancer prevention studies Raloxifen is also useful in preventing some types of breast cancer as it blocks the effects of estrogen. Before taking Evista tablets inform your doctor if you have a history of: breast cancer, heart problems, vitamin D deficiency, liver failure, hypersensitivity to raloxifen or other medicines, or any other allergy, blood clots (like pulmonary thromboembolism or deep venous thrombosis). It is not recommended to use raloxifen when you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant, and also when breastfeeding, as it may cause fetal or baby harm. Do not forget to tell your physician about all other medicines you are taking, either prescribed or not prescribed as raloxifen may interact with ampicillin, some thyroid hormones and certain dietary products. Make sure you get enough calcium and Vitamin D. Always follow the directions on the prescription label and the information leaflet of the medicine. Raloxifen can rarely cause blood clots, so you are supposed to avoid long periods of inactivity and you should routinely move around to improve your blood circulation.
