Description
Estrace (Estradiol) is an oral medicine which is a form of a sex hormone estrogen. It can be used to treat menopausal conditions such as hot flushes, vaginal dryness, burning and irritation. Estradiol can also help those women who had their ovaries removed or with vaginal atrophy and those diagnosed with osteoporosis, and with some other medical conditions. It is usually prescribed during the hormone replacement therapy.
Before you take estradiol tell your doctor if you have a history of the following medical conditions: blood clots, certain types of cancer, diabetes, dementia, high blood pressure, kidney or liver disease, heart problems, headaches, allergic reactions to any drugs or foods, smoking. Your doctor would also want to know if you are pregnant or trying for it, and also if you are breast-feeding. Take the medicine directly as prescribed by your doctor or health care professional and try not to miss any scheduled check up on your progress.
Long-term use of estradiol may increase risks of stroke and uterus cancer, so regularly check your condition with your doctor. Among other common side effects there may be nausea, acne, libido change, headaches, depression, and some others. Do not hesitate to ask your pharmacist if you have any questions.
